🧠 2. Mulberry Compounds Interfere With a Process Associated With Alzheimer’s Disease
Mulberry leaves contain polyphenols and other compounds with neuroprotective activity.
Experimental research shows Mulberry-leaf constituents can interfere with the aggregation and neurotoxicity of amyloid-beta, the protein that accumulates into plaques in Alzheimer’s disease.
Other experimental work reports protection of neurons from oxidative injury and neuroinflammation.
That doesn’t mean Mulberry treats Alzheimer’s disease—but it gives this ordinary fruit tree a surprisingly serious connection to brain research.

🦷 3. Mulberry Root Bark Contains Compounds That Attack Oral Bacteria
The underground portion of the tree has entirely different chemistry from the fruit.
Mulberry root bark contains unusual prenylated flavonoids, including compounds from the kuwanon family.
Several demonstrate strong antibacterial activity against oral microorganisms, including bacteria associated with dental plaque and tooth decay.
So while most people are looking up at the berries, some of the tree’s most unusual antimicrobial chemistry is hiding underground.
